The National Academies Press (NAP) was created by the National Academies to publish the reports issued by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the National Research Council, all operating under a charter granted by the Congress of the United States. The NAP publishes more than 200 books a year on a wide range of topics in science and engineering.

The books can be viewed for free by the chapter in HTML format. The PDF version of the entire book are available for purchase. Readers who visit the NAP site from countries in the developing world can download the PDF versions for free.

While browsing an online book chapter, you'll see this notice on the right navigation bar:

Just click on the 'Sign In' button and you'll see this:
